What makes the MBCA Roundtables different—and why I continue to prioritize them—is that they're designed as working sessions among peers. The value isn't just in listening to presentations; it's also in the opportunity to sit at the table with other General Counsels and discuss how they're approaching many of the same issues we each face every day.
The role of the General Counsel has changed dramatically over the past several years. Most of us now spend as much time advising on enterprise strategy, governance, operational risk, cybersecurity, fraud, artificial intelligence, vendor relationships, and board matters as we do providing traditional legal advice. What I appreciate most about our MBCA community is that our conversations move beyond discussing what is happening and focus instead on how institutions are actually responding.
Topics of discussion to include:
- How are legal departments moving beyond simply providing access to AI tools and implementing practical AI use cases for contracts, corporate governance, legal research, and matter management?
- How should Legal engage with fraud, cybersecurity, and operational teams during significant events, and when is the right time for Legal to become involved?
- How are institutions approaching director communications, governance, discoverability, and the use of technology—including AI—in the boardroom?
- What does an effective contract review and vendor management process look like as technology, data use, and third-party relationships become increasingly complex?
- How are legal departments thinking about succession planning, organizational structure, and preparing for future growth?
- What approaches are proving effective in simplifying signing authority frameworks while maintaining appropriate governance and operational efficiency?
Just as importantly, the conversations tend to be remarkably candid. People are willing to share not only what's working, but also what they've tried that didn't work—and what they'd do differently if given the opportunity. In my experience, those practical discussions are where the greatest value is created.
If you're considering attending for the first time, we encourage you to join us. You will find the discussions thoughtful, practical, and immediately relevant to the work you're doing. If you have attended in the past and are planning to attend this year but have not yet registered, please consider registering soon so that we can continue the planning process.
